3 Most Amusing Things From New York Fashion Week 2018

New York Fashion Week is always an exciting time for designers, press, and fashion lovers alike! I’m excited about my turn a bat to be involved in some way or another and I’m praying that this happens soon. I can’t wait to be there, seeing the new collections, observing what’s on trend for the season, and most importantly, the street fashion. All though being in that atmosphere in person would breed an amazing and new feeling for me, I’ve come to notice that watching from afar, year to year much hasn’t changed. Except for this year!

The 3 Most Amusing Things From New York Fashion Week 2018:

Ugly Shoes Are a Thing

If you have been paying attention to Instagram and celebrity fashion, you have probably seen the ugly shoe trend all over your timeline. From Chanel to Balenciaga, I’ve noticed the sudden push for this sort of orthopedic styled shoe. I don’t know about you, but when I think about fashion, I usually don’t imagine geriatric gym shoes or Jane from Tarzan style kitten heels. It is safe today that although I’m amused, This trend doesn’t get my vote!

The 80’s Are Back

Oh how we love the 80’s! Bright colors, masculine silhouettes, and women empowerment. It was the era of Drama, Drama! I was happy to see such iconic styles be represented in modern runway collections. I mean, I already frequent the vintage and thrift stores to get my throwback fix so hopefully, this means less dumpster diving for me and more accessibility to 80’s opulence. This was definitely a treat!

Melanin Faces on The Runway

Out of all the fashion and celebrity ensembles, the highlight for me was seeing so many Black and Brown faces on the runways! Like finally! Over the years, fashion weeks was like watching a white wave passing through with your occasional, Naomi Campbell, Tyson Beckford, and Chanel Iman here and there. I was happy to see some new faces and see that someone who looks like me was opening some of fashion's most sought-after runway shows.
