All Things Austin, Texas (Girls Road Trip)
Summer wouldn’t be summer without having a beyond memorable road trip with your girls! My besties and I have been friends for 20+ years and we’ve had our share of fun together. As adults, managing busy schedules and responsibilities easily make it hard for us to all get together for vacations or even weekend getaways. This alone made our Girls Trip to Austin even more special! Keep reading to find out What we did, where we ate, and sadly, what we missed!
What We Did?
360 Over Look
Thought to be a mild hike on a short trail (we actually broke a sweat haha), 360 Over Look lived up to its hype with its amazing views of the river. Parking was accessible on the North/West side of the Bridge and you could even rent a kayak and go for a ride along the water.
The Cathedral of Junk
This place was so cool! The creator of this Austin attraction created an Oasis of beautiful junk right in his own backyard. As you tour you'll find color coordinated chaos that will leave you in awe and amazement.
Castle Hill Graffiti Park
You guys know I am obsessed with street art, so checking this off my Texas bucket list made me extremely happy! We got to enjoy this beauty on a hot and crowded Saturday Afternoon and I would suggest going as a early as possible if you want to snap a great pic. Although, during peak time there are tons of food trucks and art vendors selling all kinds of things that you didn't know you needed. You can even bring you spray paint and create your own street art; you won't get arrested... at least I don't think you will hahaha!
One of the cooler bars on the Dirty Six is Buck Wild. It wasn't jam packed and they offered an insane amount of cocktail options from frozen to deadly! They are also a really modern arcade with fun games all around; even a mechanical bull!
Don't let the name fool you! It's far from sophisticated and on the contrary it is a ratchet good time! It's a classic pub with a super duper vintage feel. Drinks are cheap and most come in a huge frosted mug. The music was great but beware of all the 21st birthday celebrations, it can get a little wild
This place was kinda cool! There's an indoor area and outdoor patio with cool Latin vibes. During the day, they have some really yummy eats, but we were only able to experience the bass filled night scene. We'll definitely be back for the the food on the next go round!
Where We Ate?
Funkadelic The Funky Brunch
I freakin love concept style restaurants so rightly so, Funkadelic quickly became a fave! First of all, the food was absolutely amazeballs!!! We spoke with some of the staff about our trip and what we had planned and they were eager to give us a full breakdown of fun in Austin (Special thanks to Adam). Everything is made to order and the servings are generous. Even down to the freshly made watermelon juice...ahhh... we were definitely in heaven!
If I'm being completely transparent, I chose this place for its instagram worthy aesthetics. But baby let me tell you, the food was BOMB! It is completely farm to table (hence the name) and you can absolutely taste the freshness. They hands down have the best scrambled eggs I've ever had. Not only did it taste good, but the place was so cool. I look forward to doing a full write up for it after one more visit!
We came for the rooftop but we didn't even make it up stairs; mostly because the air conditioning got ahold of us and wouldn't let go hahaha! I must say, I wasn't the biggest fan of our main course dishes, but the white queso and home fried chips were to die for! I think next visit I'll just come for the chips and margs!
Juan In a Million
This place had some big big talk around it and it for sure held up to its rep. The place is a cute and humble cantina but it's packing on the flavor. The margaritas tasted like I was actually in Mexico and quite honestly couldn't ask for more!
I wanted to think that Voodoo Doughnuts was just a hyped up bakery and I was kinda setting myself up to be right. I was WRONG! Each donut I had was yummers!!! My fave was the Memphis Mafia; Fried dough with banana chunks and cinnamon covered in glaze, drizzled in chocolate and peanut butter with peanuts and chocolate chips on top. Sounds like a lot, which it is... but it's a lot of goodness! In case you were thinking you would just waltz in and order, PLEASE prepare to wait in a looooonnnggg line and have cash on hand!!!
What we missed?
I can't wait until my next Austin road trip so I can try some new places and get to those that I missed! If you have any suggestions or recommendations please feel free to comment because I'll be back (Terminator voice)
